On Tuesday, Oct. 17th, as part of the local CHAT Group (Community Health Action Team), this Trauma Sensitive Care Event has three objectives. First, understanding the initiative of the group; understanding the problem of trauma-exposure and the human needs created by it; and understanding ways to recognize and respond effectively. Your involvement to be informed will be helpful - as a friend, co-worker, employer, spiritual leader, educator and school board member, health care provider, child care provider, business owner, volunteer, as a human being - working together to be informed and responsive. Invite others to join in with this effort! This event will be hosted at the Manawa Masonic Center, 520 N. Bridge St., Manawa, WI. On Wednesday, Oct. 18th, Old Glory Honor Flight will take the last flight of the 2017 flight year.  There is be 3 WWII, 15 Korean and 75 Vietnam veterans on board this flight. It has been a great flight year but it is not over yet. Come on out to Appleton International Airport and welcome these veterans home. Parking is free at the end of the night! Arrive by 7:30 p.m. to have time to check out the merchandise booth and then welcome home these National treasures as the plane will arrive about 8:15 p.m.  Check out oldgloryhonorflight.org or follow us on facebook, for all of the exciting information about this flight and what is happening during the year. On Saturday, Oct. 21st, the New London High School presents the Big Band Dinner and Dance at the New London High School. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., music and food begins at 5 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Neenah Ambassadors and the New London High School Jazz Ensemble. Tickets can be purchased for $15.00 from Jazz Ensemble members or at the door. Proceeds benefit the New London Jazz Ensemble and their participation in various Jazz festivals and clinics. For additional information, click here.

On Saturday, Oct. 21st, the New London Public Museum and the Grand Cinema Theater team up to bring another classic movie to New London. Celebrate Halloween a little early with Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds on Saturday, October 21st. Enjoy this 1963 classic on the big screen. The movie starts at 7 p.m, tickets are only $2 per person and are on sale now at the museum. Don’t forget to show your movie ticket at Hilby’s and receive $5 off your food order for two or more people! This offer is good only on Saturday, October 21.  This classic movie tells the story of a wealthy San Francisco socialite who pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town. The visit slowly takes a bizarre turn when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack everyone. The movie stars Rod Taylor and Tippi Hedren among other notables. Hitchcock’s 1963 thriller was nominated for an Oscar in 1964 for its visual effects.

On Saturday, Oct. 21st, Green Apple Folk Music Society presents a concert by 50% Folk at Mosquito Hill Nature Center at 7:30 p.m.  50% Folk preforms country, blues, pop, gospel and bluegrass.  The cost is $5 for green apple members and $8 for non-members.  50% Folk is four performers from central Wisconsin who enjoy singing and playing traditional music.  Our origins date back nearly 50 years, when several of us played together in groups during the folk music revival of the 60’s.  We were reunited as the result of a fortieth high school class reunion, and have remained together ever since. On Friday, Oct. 27th through Saturday, Oct. 28th, the Annual Relay for Life "Huge Rummage Sale" will be held at the Bean City Ballroom from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday. Most items for sale are only $1.00, unless marked otherwise. Items available will include clothing, shoes, purses, hats, coats, books, Halloween costumes, seasonal items, kitchen items, and much more! All proceeds will benefit Relay for Life.

It’s a great opportunity for lively discussions, information gathering, refreshments, and lots of creative fun thrown in. On Friday, Dec. 1st, the New London Parks and Recreation Department will be offering the 2017 Reindeer Run / Walk in conjunction with the Holiday of Wonder event.  This 1 mile run / walk starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Ignite Practice Facility (300 Wolf River Plaza).  Check in and day of registration starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Washington Center Gym.  All ages are welcome and strollers are invited.  Everyone is encouraged to wear imaginative & fun holiday attire.  The run / walk will follow the parade route prior to the start of the parade and will finish at the end of the parade route where you can enjoy the parade and downtown Holiday of Wonder.  The entry fee is $10.00.  Registration is available online at www.newlondonwi.org, by calling the New London Parks & Recreation Dept. at (920) 982-8521 or by mailing a registration form to 215 N. On Saturday Mar. 17th, the Shamrock Club of New Dublin will host the St. Patrick’s Day Grand Parade at 1p.m.in downtown New Dublin.  Wisconsin’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade includes an extensive lineup of bagpipe and marching bands, festive clowns, specialty units, clans, business floats and more – up to 125 units or more.  Prizes are awarded for the best entries.  View the Parade Route.  New Dublin Irish Fest will be held downtown under a huge heated tent by Festival Foods from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and will feature the following entertainment: Sheamus Fitzpatrick and the McNally Boys from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Reilly from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  In addition, there will be Irish food, beverages, and market booths.  Entrance to Irish Fest is $5.00 for the day.
